Description

The 1 Dollar Native American Ironworkers 2015, minted at the Philadelphia Mint (P), is part of the Native American Dollar series, which honors the contributions of Indigenous peoples to the history and development of the United States. The 2015 issue pays tribute to the Mohawk ironworkers, known for their skill and bravery in constructing some of America’s most iconic skyscrapers and bridges.

The obverse, common to all Native American Dollars and designed by Glenna Goodacre, features a portrait of Sacagawea, the Shoshone woman who guided the Lewis and Clark expedition. Her calm expression and the baby on her back symbolize strength and guidance. The inscriptions "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST" complete the design.

The reverse, designed by Ronald D. Sanders, powerfully depicts Mohawk ironworkers high above a city skyline, assembling steel beams. The intricate design captures their immense contribution to the U.S. infrastructure. The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "$1" frame the composition, honoring their legacy.

Struck in manganese-brass clad composition, this coin has a beautiful golden hue. The edge inscriptions include the year, mintmark, and the national motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM", making it a significant collectible piece for history and numismatic enthusiasts.
