Description

The 1 Penny 1913, issued by the Royal Mint, is a classic British coin from the reign of King George V (1910–1936). This coin is part of the pre-decimal British currency system, which was in use before the introduction of decimalization in 1971.

The obverse features a portrait of King George V, designed by Bertram Mackennal, facing left. The surrounding inscription reads "GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX FID: DEF: IND: IMP:", which translates to "George V, by the Grace of God, King of all the Britons, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India."

The reverse showcases the iconic figure of Britannia, seated and facing right, holding a trident and shield adorned with the Union Jack. The inscription "ONE PENNY" is displayed at the top, with the year "1913" at the bottom. The design, originally introduced in 1860, remained largely unchanged until the decimalization of British currency.

Struck in bronze, this coin is a historically significant piece of British numismatics, reflecting the early years of George V’s reign and the British Empire at its height. A must-have for collectors of pre-decimal British coinage!
