Description

The 10 Lepta George I 1869, minted in Strasbourg (BB), is a historical Greek coin from the reign of King George I (1863–1913). This coin belongs to the early issues of the modern Greek state following the country’s transition to a constitutional monarchy under the rule of the Danish-born king.

The obverse features a crowned coat of arms of Greece, consisting of a cross on a shield, surrounded by an ornate mantle and topped with the royal crown. The inscription "ΒΑΣΙΛΕΙΟΝ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ" (Kingdom of Greece) encircles the design, emphasizing the nation’s sovereignty.

The reverse displays the denomination "10 ΛΕΠΤΑ" (10 Lepta) in bold lettering, with the date "1869" below. The mintmark "BB", indicating the Strasbourg Mint, is positioned at the bottom. The surrounding wreath of laurel leaves adds a decorative and classical touch to the design.

Struck in copper, this coin is a fine example of 19th-century Greek numismatics, reflecting the early years of George I’s reign and Greece’s efforts to stabilize its economy. A great collectible piece for enthusiasts of historical European coinage!
