Description

This 2 Francs silver coin from France, minted in 1871 at the Paris Mint, belongs to the Cérès series, one of the most significant designs in French numismatics. Struck in .835 fine silver, this coin was issued during the early years of the Third Republic (1870–1940), following the fall of the Second French Empire.

🔹 Obverse: Features a finely detailed left-facing portrait of Cérès, the Roman goddess of agriculture and abundance, adorned with a wreath of wheat, oak, and olive branches. The inscription "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" (French Republic) encircles the design, reinforcing the new republican era.

🔹 Reverse: Displays the denomination "2 FRANCS" centrally positioned within an oak and olive wreath, symbolizing strength and peace. The French national motto "LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ" (Liberty, Equality, Fraternity) is elegantly inscribed above, with the year "1871" and the Paris Mint mark ("A") below.

This 1871 2 Francs "Cérès" coin is a historically important piece, representing the transition to the Third Republic after the Franco-Prussian War. A valuable addition for collectors of French silver coinage, Cérès designs, and 19th-century European numismatics!
