Description

The 10 Francs 1955, designed by Lucien Bazor, is part of the post-war French coinage that circulated between 1950 and 1959. Known as the "Guiraud" type, this coin is named after Edmond-Émile Guiraud, whose signature appears on the coin as the Director of the Monnaie de Paris (French Mint).

The obverse features Marianne, the national symbol of the French Republic, wearing a Phrygian cap, representing liberty and revolution. The inscription "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" surrounds the design, emphasizing the nation’s republican values.

The reverse showcases a classical French agricultural design, with wheat ears, an olive branch, and an oak branch, symbolizing prosperity, peace, and strength. The denomination "10 FRANCS" is prominently placed in the center, with the year "1955" inscribed below. The national motto "LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ" (Liberty, Equality, Fraternity) is featured along the rim.

Struck in cupronickel, this coin is a significant piece of mid-20th century French numismatics, reflecting post-war economic recovery and national identity. A great collectible for enthusiasts of French currency and historical coinage!
